Siapin Horticulture: unique landscape construction in California? Here at Gelson’s Market in Century City, we wanted to bring some green to the entrance which really seemed to be a concrete jungle. We went with some modern flower boxes and drought friendly succulents to really change things up. Siapin Horticulture is well known for landscape design and construction even in a downtown “concrete jungle” habitat. Chapman plaza located in Koreatown is a Los Angeles landmark. Dan and the Siapin Horticulture crew stepped up to the plate to facelift the historic property without taking the history out of this now bustling little plaza that is home to a dozen cool eateries including the Quarters Korean BBQ. Siapin Horticulture installed new trellis on the back wall for the plant life to grow upwards as well as add some classic terracotta pots to the location. Check out the video and the photos below.

How Bioretention works: Do you remember the science class at the university when you made a water purification project at the end with a water bottle, fine sand, fine sand, pebbles, and a coffee filter? A Bioretention is almost the same concept with a few small details added. These shallow depressions in the landscape are designed to mimic the mechanisms of the removal of pollutants in our forest ecosystems that slow down and treat the outflow. Consisting of different elimination mechanisms, each with a specific role, the bioretention zone will intercept the water that flows out of your car park by slowing it down and capturing the various pollutants it has caused. Mechanisms such as a sand bed for filtration, absorption through vegetation, a shallow pond, soil particles, and mulch will help filter pollutants and distribute water evenly in the soil environment.

A beautiful landscape design can transform a place from ordinary to extraordinary! While the basic exterior of a building may or may not be allowed to be changed or modified, but how the owner wants to do up or keep the garden is a personal choice. The garden area adds immense style and beauty to a house or commercial space, along with being the space that offers rejuvenation and peace. This comfort instantly magnifies when the landscape design of the garden is unique and beautiful. Landscape gardens are a class apart and can add tons of charm to any garden area. In Hollywood, at Tioh Park and Play, they were in need of a new parking structure so we got right on that. Outside of the parking structure we installed new decomposed granite walkways and trees surrounding the structure. To give more of an “outdoorsy” vibe we also added boulders for seating. We also planted a vegetable garden for the students. This was all accomplished with us using sustainable landscaping.

Rainwater drainage systems use catchment areas that collect vast amounts of dirt to reduce the amount of waste. Drainage systems are essential for quick removal of drains to prevent flooding of roads and surfaces such as car parks and sidewalks. Rainwater retention systems collect and hold collected water so that it can be gradually discharged into the soil. Excess water is pushed to the central system to reduce the impact when the water flow reaches its maximum. While detention systems protect against flooding, collecting and holding systems for water retention until it can be naturally absorbed into the ground and the underground water table can be cooled.
