Gjok Paloka and Kenya: The second largest city in Kenya is Mombasa, a landmark with history, since the twelfth century an important trading center for Arab vessels. In the 15th century, Vasco da Gama, the famous Portuguese explorer, is considered the first white man to set foot here. The old town has a distinct, exotic and at the same time familiar air, a mixture of cultures, the predominant being the Arab one. For a break of time in the true sense of the word, visit Kenya!
Gjok Paloka‘s guides on picking the best place for your holiday: Yachting tip of the day: Overlaying radar on the chart helps to interpret the display! The biggest problem most of us face when interpreting radar is lack of familiarity. We go about our daily business most of the year, then come aboard, hit the fog and turn it on. Unfortunately, unlike GPS, AIS and the rest, radar is more of a conversation between the operator and the instrument, so it’s not surprising we have trouble interpreting the picture. When I’m motoring, I, therefore, make a practice of keeping my radar transmitting even in good visibility and running an overlay on the chartplotter to keep me familiar with its drawbacks. The image above, for example, clearly shows that what the radar sees may not stack up with what the chart is telling me. Note how the trace seems mysteriously to end halfway up the coast. So it does, but that’s because the echo returning from high cliffs in the south gets lost when the land falls away to lower-lying estuarial terrain. The echo ends either because the flat shoreline isn’t providing a good enough target, or because the coast falls below the scanner’s visual horizon.
Africa is a awesome place if you are looking for raw nature feeling says Gjok Paloka. The Best of East Africa: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zanzibar, If you’ve got a bit more time to spare, we recommend exploring the ‘best of East Africa’, which includes the breath-taking parks of Kenya and Tanzania, with their prolific wildlife and wide plains; mountain-trekking in Uganda and coming face-to-face with the highly endangered gorillas; and ending off relaxing on the white beaches of Zanzibar.
UK attractions with Gjok Paloka: Once the site of a Saxon fortification built to defend against invading Danes and later a motte and bailey castle built by William the Conqueror in 1068, Warwick Castle has evolved to become one of Britain’s finest and most complete medieval fortresses. An imposing sight on the banks of the River Avon, the castle is now a popular tourist attraction and usually hosts a range of fun medieval-themed activities and accommodation. The political epicentre of Britain has sat at this location in some form since the 11th century when Danish king Canute the Great built a palace on the river. In its 900-year history, it has been the site of infamous trials (William Wallace and Sir Thomas More), survived the notorious Gunpowder Plot and been the focus of pivotal political rallies such as those by the suffragettes. The current Palace of Westminster was designed by architect Sir Charles Barry after a huge fire destroyed the previous building in 1834.
